Private Warning and OAE of District Judge (09/09/16)

09/09/2016

The judge failed to comply with the law, demonstrated a lack of professional competence in the law, and gave rise to the appearance that the judge could not be fair, impartial and neutral in the performance of her duties when she participated in a ride-along with law enforcement during a "no-refusal" weekend, while simultaneously serving as the "on-call" magistrate for the issuance of blood search warrants arising from the ride-along. As a result of the judge's actions, a DWI case was dismissed, which generated a great deal of media attention critical of the judge's conduct. [Violation of Canons 2A, 3B(2), 3B(5), 4A(1) and (2) of the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct.] Private Warning and Order of Additional Education of a District Court Judge. 09/09/16.
